Cats Protection

Basildon, Brentwood & District Cats Protection

We are the local branch of the national charity of Cats Protection, ours aims are to find loving homes for cats & kittens, to encourage neutering of all cats and to provide information to the public.

All the cats we help are fostered in our volunteers homes until we can find them loving homes of their own, all the cats we take in are treated for fleas/worms and all adult cats are neutered, we fundraise by holding auctions, having stalls at local events, quiz nights, bowling nights etc.. If you need help or would like to help please contact our Cat Helpline.

Howard Wallace Chorale

The Howard Wallace Chorale was formed in 1980 with the purpose of performing high quality music from as wide a range as possible, in a style not offered by existing excellent choral societies and opera groups. A range of lighter popular music is sung in the choral tradition; this has had an immediate and lasting appeal, and there is now a regular attendance at performances of the Chorale's middle of the road repertoire - music sacred and secular, popular classics, folk-songs, show music, and especially the arrangements created by Howard Wallace, the founder and musical director.

The choir practices on Mondays at 7-45pm sharp at Shenfield School, Oliver Road, Shenfield are lively and robust, requiring application, concentration, and attention to detail in attaining a high standard of performance. They are also very enjoyable as well as preparing us all to participate in the production of moving, inspirational and thrilling music from a very varied repertoire.

Ramblers Association

There are 19 walking groups in Essex operating under the auspices of the Ramblers’ Association. Brentwood Ramblers has been in existence for more than 30 years and has long been one of the more successful ones. Its catchment area is formally defined by Brentwood Borough Council District but many members live outside this area and opt to join it and enjoy its activities.

Our walks programme extends to more than 200 walks a year. We walk half days every Saturday and Thursday; full days every Sunday and Tuesday of the year, as well as Wednesday summer evenings. Full day walks are generally of 10-12 miles and half days 5-6 miles. Many of the walks are in our local area but we do travel further afield into Essex, Kent, Hertfordshire and Suffolk. Coach walks to other areas, and weekends away complete our programme.

A principle objective of The Ramblers is to promote walking activities and to protect paths and rights of way. We work closely with the local authority to clear paths, repairing bridges etc, - this proves to be a surprisingly enjoyable as well as a very beneficial activity.

Another objective is simply to enjoy ourselves in the countryside and to engender a sense of fun and companionship in everything we do. Hopefully this arises spontaneously on our walks, but we do run a number of social activities to help to further this objective.

For a copy of our programme and Rambles Association enrolment form, please send your name and address to :-

Shenfield Operatic Society

The Shenfield Operatic Society are always looking for new members, young, old, male or female to join them on stage. If you have always been interested in performing with a friendly society, then you should drop them a line!

You may not have the inclination to perform on stage, but they also need financial and practical help as well as good
performers. By contributing a modest annual subscription and perhaps giving a little of your time, you can help them to maintain this high standard of production. There are benefits too! You will be invited to join them for social events, and will receive advance notification of all performances and ticket details. So, apply now to by visiting either their Registration page or by contacting our Membership Secretary, Georgie Godbold.

Those wishing to perform on stage will need to pass an informal audition.
